In an Arab Women’s Notebook, twenty Canadian Arab women, from all walks of life, contributed to this book; each sharing a piece of herself through poetry and short stories of love, loss, family, individuality, identity, immigration and more. It is a collective effort to humanize women in a world still struggling to find gender equality and to particularly shed light on Arab women who are often stigmatized and stereotyped in the West.
Dana Ben Halim is the Founder of Heart Learning Education Curriculum and current owner of Carolina Lighthouse Staging & Redesign in NC. She is the title author in An Arab Women’s Notebook and a natural-born entrepreneur with a love for sharing with others. Dana has been on a journey searching for her identity as an Arab woman after having lived in nine different countries. “The most confusing question that anyone could ask me is: “Where are you from?”
As a wife and mother, Dana moved to Toronto in 2003 where she became saddened each day by the world view of the Arab community as displayed on the news. Although she felt that so much in the news about Arabs was far from true, deep down she began to question her own identity. Consequently, Dana created a Facebook group called Arab Women Success to learn more about and connect with Arab women living in Canada.
She decided to create this book of stories written by Arab women so the world could learn more about Arabs through a collection of short stories. In an Arab Women’s Notebook the authors share their stories of happiness, pain, love, friendship, work, immigration and more, bringing a sense of how connected we really are to each other as well as women everywhere. “I am so proud of this book. It is truly a dream come true for me. I welcome the world to connect with my beautiful community and see it through the light that I know: one full of Love.” Dana currently lives in North Carolina, United States with her three children and husband. On the weekend you can find her fishing with her kids or on road trip headed towards another adventurous getaway.
