Always wanted a beautiful, personable bookstore you could call home?
We are on the same page.
We close on Long Weekends. See Home Page for any extended Holiday Hours or closures.
There is currently a lot of construction happening on Queen Street East! We have not yet renovated our storefront so we might be hard to spot. We are on the north side of Queen, four stores west of Jarvis.
Ben McNally Books is situated on Indigenous land. This is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, and the Huron-Wendat. This territory is covered by Treaty 13.
Today, the meeting place of Toronto is still the home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work in the community, on this territory.
At Ben McNally Books we would like to reaffirm our accountability to these nations, to acknowledge Canada's failure to uphold treaties and to recognize the right of Indigenous nations to self-determination. As settlers and colonizers it is our responsibility to continually work to de-colonize our ways of thinking and behaviour. We are committed to supporting indigenous authors and engaging with the works they produce.
A Note on Accessibility:
Ben McNally Books is not yet accessible to wheelchairs. Our storefront has an 8 inch step from the sidewalk to our door. We are in the process of renovating the store, and with that are determining the best way to allow access to our retail space via the front door. We apologize sincerely for the delay. In the interim, please do get in touch if you have any questions - we are happy to deliver books and to provide what assistance we can over phone or email.
Your independent bookstore in the heart of Toronto
"When I get a little money, I buy books; if any is left, I buy food and clothes."
Ben McNally Books is a family-run independent bookstore in downtown Toronto.
Our aim is to reflect the wide-ranging tastes of our clientele and our neighbourhood. We have recently moved into our new permanent location, which will look different than some of the pictures you see on the website. Our renovations are ongoing as we try to recreate the environment of our Bay Street store. Once renovations are complete we will update the website with new photos.
Our inventory is always changing, and it is our profound hope that you will find books here that you won't find elsewhere.
On the internet you can find what you're looking for; in our store you can find what you are not looking for.
We take requests for assistance very seriously; we all read constantly and our recommendations are chosen with an eye to creating a long term relationship with you as a customer.
We do a lot of special orders, and maintain contacts in the US and the UK that allow us to source books that are not readily available in this country.
