At twenty-five\, she is rudderless\, caught in a paralysis which keeps her from seizing her own life. \nWhen Sarah is fired from her Toronto job\, a chance stay in Paris opens her up to new direction and purpose. \nBut when she reads the writing on the wall above her local Metro subway station\, “death to the Jews”\, shadows from childhood rise again. And as her path crosses that of Laila\, a young woman living in an exile remote from the luxuries of 1980s Paris\, Sarah stumbles towards to an act of terrorism that may realize her childhood fears. \nIn this new novel by the author of The Knife Sharpener’s Bell\, writing that is both sensual and taut creates a tightly woven\, compelling narrative. \n\n \nRhea Tregebov‘s first novel\, The Knife Sharpener’s Bell\, published by Coteau Books\, won the J.I Segal Award of English Fiction and Poetry\, and was listed in the Globe and Mail’s top 100 books for the year. Well-known as an award-winning poet and author of children’s picture books\, Rhea has also edited numerous anthologies and collections of work. Born in Saskatoon and raised in Winnipeg\, she did postgraduate studies at Cornell and Boston Universities\, worked formany years as a freelance writer and editor in Toronto\, and taught creative writing at Ryerson University and the University of British Columbia. Now a Professor Emerita at UBC\, Rhea continues to live and write in Vancouver. \n\nAlissa York’s internationally acclaimed novels include Mercy\, Effigy (shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize) and\, most recently\, Fauna. She is also the author of the short fiction collection\, Any Given Power\, stories from which have won the Journey Prize and the Bronwen Wallace Award. Her essays and articles have appeared in such periodicals as The Guardian\, The Globe and Mail and Canadian Geographic. York has lived all over Canada and now makes her home in Toronto with her husband\, artist Clive Holden. \n000000
