SUMMARY:Tyler Hellard: The Away Game Tour
DESCRIPTION:Ben McNally Books is pleased to host the Toronto launch for Tyler Hellard‘s new book Searching for Terry Punchout. \nPlease join Tyler Hellard (Searching for Terry Punchout\, Invisible Publishing)\, Manjushree Thapa (All of Us in Our Own Lives\, Freehand Books) and Stacey May Fowles (Baseball Life Advice\, M&S) in conversation with Terry Fallis about fraught family dynamics and how we forge connections to community and home. \nBooks will be available for sale\, and the authors will be happy to sign your copy. \nWhen: \nWednesday September 19 \n6-8pm \nWhere: \nBen McNally Books \n366 Bay Street \n\n \nAdam Macallister’s sportswriting career is about to end before it begins\, but he’s got one last shot–a Sports Illustrated profile about hockey’s most notorious goon\, the reclusive Terry Punchout–who also happens to be Adam’s estranged father. Adam returns to Pennington\, Nova Scotia\, where Terry now lives in the local rink and drives the Zamboni. Going home means drinking with old friends\, revisiting neglected relationships\, and dealing with lingering feelings about his father and dead mother–and discovering that his friends and family are kinder and more complicated than he ever gave them credit for. Searching for Terry Punchout is a charming and funny tale of hockey\, small-town Maritime life\, and how\, despite our best efforts\, we just can’t avoid turning into our parents. \n\nAbout the Panelists: \nTyler Hellard grew up in Prince Edward Island\, graduated from St. Francis Xavier University and now lives in Calgary with his wife and kids\, where he writes commercial copy\, technology criticism and essays. His non-fiction has appeared in THIS Magazine\, The Walrus\, and on CBC Radio. Before finally quitting hockey at 18\, he was pretty bad at it. Tyler’s debut novel Searching for Terry Punchout was listed by Quill & Quire as a fall debut to look out for. \nManjushree Thapa was born in Kathmandu and raised in Nepal\, Canada\, and the United States. She has written several books of fiction and non-fiction\, and she has translated Nepali literature into English. Her essays have appeared in the New York Times\, the London Review of Books\, Newsweek\, and the Globe and Mail. All of Us in Our Own Lives is the first novel she wrote after moving to Toronto. \nStacey May Fowles is the bestselling author of Baseball Life Advice: Loving the Game that Saved Me. She’s also an award-winning novelist\, essayist and journalist\, and has written about baseball for the National Post\, the Globe and Mail\, Vice Sports\, Deadspin\, The Athletic\, Elle\, and many others. \n  \n000000
