SUMMARY:Yrsa Daley-Ward | In Her Voice
DESCRIPTION:Please join Ben McNally Books and Penguin Random house in celebrating Yrsa Daley-Ward‘s new book\, The Terrible. \nYrsa will be joined in conversation with Kathleen Newman-Bremang. \nWhen: \nWednesday June 27 2018 @6pm \nWhere: \nBen McNally Books \n366 Bay Street \nPrice: \nFree! Please reserve your spot here \n\n \nFrom the celebrated poet behind bone\, a lyrical memoir—part prose\, part verse—about coming-of-age\, uncovering the cruelty and beauty of the wider world\, and redemption through self-discovery and the bonds of family\n \n“You may not run away from the thing that you are\nbecause it comes and comes and comes as sure as you breathe.” \nThis is the story of Yrsa Daley-Ward\, and all the things that happened—“even the terrible things. And God\, there were terrible things.” It’s about her childhood in the northwest of England with her beautiful\, careworn mother Marcia; the man formerly known as Dad (half fun\, half frightening); and her little brother Roo\, who sees things written in the stars. \nIt’s also about the surreal magic of adolescence\, about growing up and discovering the power and fear of sexuality\, about pitch-gray days of pills and powder and connection. It’s about damage and pain\, but also joy. Told with raw intensity and shocking honesty\, The Terrible is a memoir of going under\, losing yourself\, and finding your voice. \n\n \nYrsa Daley-Ward is a writer and poet of mixed West Indian and West African heritage. Born to a Jamaican mother and a Nigerian father\, Yrsa was raised by her devout Seventh Day Adventist grandparents in the small town of Chorley in the North of England. She splits her time between London and New York. \n\n \nKathleen Newman-Bremang is a Television Producer and Freelance writer. Her work has appeared in publications including Elle Canada and TheKit. For the last five years she has been working as a segment producer for CTV’s The Social. Kathleen lives in Toronto. \n\n000000
